Greece Postcard- Hello From Athens

acropolis athens view

Yassas (Hello) with a Greece post card to everyone from the jam-packed city of Athens!. I have to admit an affinity for this beautiful city. It reminds me of Nigeria with the energy, the never ending hustle that is evident and the exotic music that blares from radios in public spaces. Athens looks and feels …

Heurige Adventure In Grinzing Vienna (Miss And A Bullseye!)

Grinzing Vienna

Heurige adventure in Grinzing Vienna

One of the things we had to do in Vienna during the lovely week we spent there was to go on a Vienna Heurigen. Vienna, and specifically the suburb of Grinzing is a wonderful place to experience heuriger. The word heuriger means “this year” in German. Yep! This year as in wine produced last harvest.

Our search for young wine tasting at a local heuriger (tavern) led us on an at first fruitless or wineless endeavor. We chose the DIY route since we were staying in a central location close to the metro. We had just done organized tours in Porto so we wanted a change. It sounded easy enough to do. Famous last words! 🙂

Postcard From Vienna Austria. Wicked Cool Surprise !

postcard from vienna austria

This could easily have been titled “What to do when you’re not feeling Prague!”. As you know from the last postcard, I wasn’t enjoying Prague as much as l thought l would. I didn’t hate it, I just didn’t love it. I’m not sure why l thought we were in Prague for just 2 weeks, but it’s actually just a shade under 3 weeks :-). Luckily, I had booked our accommodation for just one week with the intention of trying out a different area of town so we could get a good feeling for the city. The thought of staying on didn’t exactly light my fire, so l did what l do best… cut the losses and move on to greener pastures. Since we were so close to Austria, we decided spur of the moment to add a new country and head to Vienna. The awesome freedom to do what you want, when you want!. What a lovely surprise Vienna has turned out to be. We are both sure we could live here. We’re also sure that we probably couldn’t afford to, but what a lovely place. So many reasons to love it, I keep humming all these happy songs. The above image is from the Belvedere Place complex…stunning place!

Yes! We are finally in Prague, Czech Republic. This trip had been on the books for a very long time, but for some reason or the other never came to pass until now. I finally booked it while we were still wavering between leaving Spain altogether and trying a new country or staying on. Federico, being the daredevil was all set to move without having visited, while l was a bit more cautious. We had moved to Malaga without a prior visit and ultimately, neither of us loved it. We liked it well enough, but a weekend visit maybe, not to live. Seville suited us much better, as does Valencia now. I was therefore not eager to do the same thing with a new country. Besides, as a black woman, I wanted to make sure l would feel comfortable enough among the locals. I can’t afford to make those decisions willy-nilly! 🙂
