My interview with Eduardo Lozano was another very enjoyable one and we touched on a lot of topics. It also affirms my belief that if one desires a “self-designed” lifestyle, it is important to conquer your fear and make it happen. Find out all about life on a Japanese island.

Living La Vida In Japan With Expat Eduardo Lozano

Eduardo is living la Vida in Japan and loving it because he was able to take the leap of faith with a new job and now he has also found love and contentment on a lovely Japanese island.

First comes love. Eddie and his wife in traditional attire.

Eduardo was raised in Chicago and lived there with his family until it was time for college. He moved to Ohio and soon got involved in the arts. Writing, acting, and directing shorts. He even won an award or two for his efforts :-). He was also a student of journalism and he thought he had found his calling.

Coming into clarity, later on, Eduardo decided that his chosen line of work was a tough profession to get into and actually make a living from it. Hollywood after all, is littered with aspiring actors, actresses, directors, and so on.

It was at this point that he started thinking of adventures outside of America. It would have been easy for him to ex-pat to another Spanish speaking country such as Mexico (where his parents are from originally), Ecuador, or even Spain (Barcelona was a strong contender) since he speaks the language, but he had a bigger thirst for challenge.

Highlights of Living la Vida in Japan include:

  • Where he lives in Japan
  • Growing up in Chicago with family.
  • Moving and adjusting to life in Ohio.
  • Missing his mother’s cooking, and Chicago deep-dish pizza.
  • Feeling that he deserved that first award after all.
  • What other countries he considered aside from Japan.
  • How he found his job overseas.
  • Life on the island of Tokushima and the countryside living.
  • His feeling safe in Japan, as compared to the states
  • His Japanese learning effort and people’s reaction to that.
  • Finding love in Japan and growing their family.
  • Teaching very little kids in English. What he had expected, and how it turned out.
  • His parent’s reaction when they visited him in Tokushima.
  • The cost of living in Tokushima.
  • Gaming, one of his passions. I even found out I’m a retro gamer :-).
  • The scent of a woman’s sweat and other weird things in Japan.
  • The most popular types of gaming to be found on the island.
  • His desire to enroll as a Ninja student, and the martial arts he does now.
  • If Japan could be the final destination for him.
  • Future desires as far as work goes.
  • His mom’s words of advice which he took and which he believes others looking to do the same should heed.

Then comes kid, all living la vida in Tokushima.

I had a really fun time chatting with Eduardo. You know how much l love hearing stories of the brave souls who take a chance and move to another country for different experiences and way of life.

It seems to me that he really was destined for a life in Japan when you consider that he is a big fan of Japanese Anime and martial arts. Had he not taken his great leap, he more than likely wouldn’t have met his soul mate.

We continually say that life is short, and if this year has taught us anything, it’s that nothing is guaranteed. At the beginning of this year, no one could have predicted the catastrophe that was to befall the world. It’s great to see young people like Eduardo living with no regrets.

  1. Had a lot of fun listening to this podcast – give me Japan, give me video games talk, and you’ve got me hooked. And, following this podcast, I know now that there’s at least one flavor of ice-cream that I don’t want to taste :)) Hopefully the people who invented it didn’t put all their money behind this flavor – I don’t think it’s one to bring in the big profits hahaha.

    • Haha! I knew you would like this one, especially the gaming part. I absolutely agree about the ice cream flavor. It sounds disgusting, and l can not imagine anyone wanting to try that. Hahah! how do you top that? socks sweat maybe? I was already turned off at the green tea flavor, never mind that! No, thank you very much :-).
