The Chatrium Hotel Riverside Bangkok is pretty sensational. I’ll tell you that right off the bat. The last part of our much too short vacationย week was spent at the absolutely amazing grounds of the five star Chatrium Hotel Riverside (a mouthful to say, but since they have several hotels in the Bangkok, one must differentiate) with its jaw dropping views of the Chao Phraya river.
Our original plan had been to spend a couple of days in Bangkok, then a day and half in Chiang Mai to visit some friends who had recently moved there, and then back to Bangkok for the remaining days. Well, you know what they say about the best laid plans ๐ .

The airline changed moved up our departure time leaving us in a time crunch. We ended up eliminating the Chiang Mai visit and stayed the entire time ย in Bangkok. The Chatrium Hotel graciously offered us two out of the remaining nights on a complimentary basis. I couldn’t have chosen a better way to end our holiday. The hotel is located about seven kilometers from the Grand Palace. Let me show you some of the reasons why l think this hotel is absolutely sensational.
Because things happen, such as missing our flight to Mallorca and losing money, we always recommend travel insurance. To find the best one, please check out our recommendation page for great plans.

Check-In at Chatrium Riverside Bangkok was smooth and easy:

The check-in to the Chatrium Hotels and Residences was quick and efficient. As soon as the car pulled up, two valets were there to get our luggage and quickly led us to the lobby where we were assisted by a lovely man by the name of Jackie. His smile was infectious. As soon as he checked usย in, he followed us to our suite on the 28th floor.
Upon entering the room, he drew back the curtains and we caught our first glimpse of Bangkok and the Chao Phraya river. It was insane :-). Federico and l both went on the balcony first to marvel at the sights of boats cruising down the river and skyscrapers glistening in the sun. Jackie showed us all the amenities in the room and then left us to ourselves.

Chatrium Suites Bangkok:
The first thing you notice right away is the floor to ceiling windows giving you a stunning view of Bangkok. We slept with the drapes open because we loved the night views just as much as the day views. We didn’t want to miss a thing. Another favorite part for me was the glass enclosed shower. It had a window shade that was pulled all the way down. If you notice, l pulled it all the way up so l could have the same awesome view while showering. The tub was big and l used it a couple of times during our stay.
The bed was big and comfortable with luxurious sheets. We really enjoyed sitting out on the balcony in the evenings looking at the lights and night boats. Very calming and romantic even :-). Truthfully, l couldn’t think of anything else one could need. There was even a bathroom scale! Yikes!!! I definitely didn’t need that. ๐
The Restaurant at Chatrium Hotel Riverside:
[the_ad id=”14098″]
We ate at the main restaurant in the lobby area. It was done in blue hues and blended quite nicely with the gold touches. The first meal we had there was a buffet which had so many different kinds of food including sushi and an amazing seafood soup. Along with all that, you still get a choice of main dish (we chose grilled prawns) and dessert.
It was $20 per person for a meal that would have easily been at least quadruple that in the States for the quality and amount. Over the stay, we also got to sample some of the cocktails from the various bars and restaurants and found them very good. I’m always on the hunt for a good margarita and l was not disappointed with theirs. There are 5 other restaurant and bars on the grounds.
The Gym at the Chatrium Hotel Riverside Bangkok:
[the_ad id=”14099″]
Along with the conference rooms and grand ballroom, there is also a full size gym for guests who were so inclined. We didn’t use the gym, but it’s nice to know it’s available. You can see from the first picture above that the infinity pool which was located on the 6th floor is quite impressive. Plenty of changing rooms, showers etc.
One of the extras that they provide for the hotel guests that have late airline departure times could not only leave their luggage for safekeeping, but they could use the facilities to change and refresh themselves before heading out. There is also a Spa attached to the hotel. This time, l did not indulge in any spa experiences. We just couldn’t find the time. Will have to save it for the next time.
The Boat: (Free water taxi at the Chatrium Hotel Riverside Bangkok):
Due to it’s location on the river, The Chatrium Hotel provides a free shuttle boat that five minutes later will drop you at the nearby Sathorn pier where you can catch the mass transit train or take one of the many tourist boats to see sights such as the floating market or Wat Pho temple. There are a lot of cafes and bars around there so you can wander about. We took one of those tuktuks and saw some of the local sights and smaller temples. Nothing beats the grandeur of Wat Pho temple, but they were nice.

Thailand, and Bangkok especially is a hip and happening place. There is a lot of nightlife, especially for the young. For people like us who are past clubbing and night crawling, it was a pleasure to hang around the Chatrium Hotel Riverside. We were quite happy to sit by the water and sip our drinks along the other guests or sit in the lobby and watch soccer on the dedicated screen which brought us a lot of joy.
Reasons why you should stay at the Chatrium Riverside Hotel in Bangkok include:
- Superior accommodation
- Luxury amenities including gym, spa, and beauty shop
- Amazing restaurant and rooftop bar
- Incredible views of the Praya river
- Attentive staff
- Free water taxi
- Close proximity to attractions in Bangkok
We have actually talked about our next visit to Bangkok and how much we are looking forward to spending more time here. Once again, thanks to the favorable exchange rate which hovers at $1 to 35 Baht, 5 star luxury doesn’t have to break the bank at all! ย ๐ .

Very nice looking hotel! I always enjoy being next to the river in Bangkok, the ferries that run up and down the river a good way of getting around the city.
Frank (bbqboy)
Loved the view. Really couldn’t get enough of it, from the little ones hauling along the huge ones loaded with goods tot he hotel boats to the speeding ones carrying tourists. Fantastic area..and great hotel ๐
The hotel looked fabulous! I think Bangkok is too big for me!–Terri
It really was! Bangkok is extremely big, knowing you, it might be too big for you ๐
But that one song makes me want to visit once. “One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble…” To get its feel, you know. See what that means.
If memory serves right, the singer was Murray Head. I remember thinking how exotic it sounded back then, and it still does..but l have a feeling it’s about the nightlife ๐
I think so. Guess I might only see a soft bed and pillow, like those at the hotel. ๐
If you have to see something, then a soft bed and pillow is quite nice. ๐
Ahh, the city of angels, Bangkok. That looks a very nice and the views of the Chao Praya are great, especially for sunsets. I’ve just spent 10 weeks in BKK, but my choice of accommodation was just 5000 baht per month and so the views were not so great!
10 weeks!!! Wow..that is a long trip! Was it work or pleasure? I would love to spend more time in Bangkok and discover so many more parts. One week was definitely not enough. You’re right, the sunsets are absolutely magnificent and definitely one of our favorite things to do in the evening, sit on the balcony..free excitement ๐ . I can see why the views weren’t so great at the price you paid, but l bet it was still lovely :-). Thanks for the comment.
Wow. You had me at “sensational” which pretty much sums up my reaction to this hotel! Being comped a couple of nights is only icing on the cake (those views! that bed!) but it looks like any guest would feel like they got their money’s worth and more. Anita
Most definitely money well spent. Every possible thing you could need was provided. The views were just stunning, and we felt it was a crime to even consider drawing the curtains. Seeing how the staff interacted with the guests, yeah..you were made to feel very special indeed. A fantastic hotel, they even have permanent residences also in the next tower building….food for thought ๐
It looks fabulous. No way the shade would go down with those views. Bangkok is on the radar for sure within the next year.
Yeah..it was really cool with the views. As soon as we were alone, l pulled it all the way up and left the curtains open the whole time. Very impressive views and hotel :-). You guys will love it.
Fabulous Hotel!!! The view is amazing…I love when hotels have floor to ceiling windows!! I’m like you I would’ve left the windows open too…enjoy the view the entire time!!!
It certainly is a fabulous hotel! Open all the way.. I like the fact that there is no shy person. It is a crime to cover all that beauty ๐
I would have left the shower shade open for sure. The views were amazing and it’s nice to know this trip is more affordable then I thought.
You really get a bang for your buck thanks to the exchange rate. It really makes it very affordable luxury. It’s a great trip for sure ๐
One word: AMAZING! Thanks so much for these photos and those views! I’m low-key jealous right now because this photo blog of the trip is simply gorgeous!
Haha! I love how you said low-key jealous .. never heard that before. I am planning on stealing it. It was awesome. The views were amazing like you say. I want to go back ๐
Fabulous hotel, the view, the huge room, the bed, the food…what is not to like. I would love to go back to Bangkok and would definitely want to stay by the river again. Last time we stayed at the Riva Surya, also had beautiful river views and we found it so easy to use the river as a very pleasant way to get around and avoid the mad road trafic
We really enjoyed sitting on the balcony looking at the boats below and the sunsets were spectacular. Fantastic views. It was really nice hopping on the boat which came so frequently. I really wish we had a longer visit. We hope to rectify that soon. That traffic really can be brutal ๐
Looks so nice, His smile was infectious. Very nice that he made sure everything was good by going to the room. Delicious looking food and affordable.
His smile definitely is infectious. A really nice guy and he made us feel very welcome. The food was amazing as were the grounds. We so loved seeing the sun going down and just hanging about the place.
Oh! Emmmmm! Geeeeeeeee! This is absolutely gorgeous! I might not ever leave the room. Then you for sharing this!
We didn’t want to leave the room either. It was that good! ๐
Beautiful pictures. I love the bold vibrant colors. The view was amazing, I would sleep with the curtains open too.
It really would have been a crime to cover the view ๐ , so we didn’t. I loved the color in the dining area too, very vibrant.
Yes!! That hotel is FABULOUS!!! Everything about it says, “awesome,” and the pool! I would have spent most of my time right there!
Haha! Fede spent some time at the pool. Me? It was all about the views in the room and from the restaurants etc. We loved hanging out there.
Great pictures! I now want to visit just to stay in this hotel. I’m in love with the main restaurants interior design. You’re right the views are gorgeous. Bangkok is definitely close to the top of my bucket list now.
Glad to hear. I have to admit that l didn’t think l would like Bangkok, but it was nice to be surprised. Thanks for the compliment ๐ . he views are the best. Yeah..it’s an awesome hotel!
What a beautiful place! The food looks amazing. I am a huge mango fan too. I think I’d have to taste test it all!!
The mango was fantastic! It is a beautiful place and we had a really good time ๐
That looks so blissful! Great views are a must & I love how there are options to just relax in a cosy nook & watch TV-that would have been me as well!:-)
$20/head sounds really fair & the food is yummy looking. Buffets are so much more convenient because if you pick something you dislike just leave it and choose something else! Win!
Thanks for sharing & yes it all looked so good I can see why your return trip is planned. Funny thing I read recently that Thailand is in the top 5 countries with warn, friendly people. It’s always obvious isn’t it, you tend to like places where the people are nicer!
The people are definitely warm and friendly, and yes.. it makes for an even more wonderful experience. I didn’t know they were in the top 5, but it is certainly well deserved. That nook was awesome, and they showed all leagues of football which was great , a drink and comfy chairs and we were happy. The views from the waterside was so cool in the evenings. It was really perfect for us as we were not into going clubbing. The buffet was well worth it, if just for those prawns and the buffet sushi alone which was excellent. I wasn’t about to do the street food. Our stomachs thanked us for not being brave ๐
Chatrium Hotel looks so beautiful! I love everything you have presented on it. I like how the room looks like a one bedroom apartment with even a kitchen! I am noticing even in America more hotels offering a mini kitchen. It really helps cut back on the cost of eating out a lot. The restaurant looks amazing, too!! And the dessert!! YUM! It sounds like (and looks like) your experience in Bangkok was a very great time!
It really is beautiful. We absolutely loved it there and can’t wait to visit Thailand and there again. It is really nice to have a fridge and kitchenette like you say. It can get very pricey eating out all the time. For me, it’s more for drinking. I love cold icy water so l buy a couple and stick them in the freezer for whenever. The dessert was excellent when l ate it separately. It was a fabulous time in Bangkok. I now see why everyone raves about Thailand.
Looks really beautiful. I reminds me a little of the place I stayed in in Shanghai. You got some great pictures and the food looks amazing!
Oh that must have been nice. We have yet to visit Shanghai but if it looks anything like this, count us in ๐ . Thanks for the compliment .
Lovely! Lovely! Lovely! I’m loving your hotel. Wow!
I’ve been to Bangkok 3 times and each time it just gets better and better! In fact for one visit, I had done a months travelling around Vietnam, so I flew to Bangkok for a few days “to rest”! Ididn’t leave the hotel in Bangkok for 48 hours!!
On our last visit with husband and child, I booked a suite at a family friendly hotel near the riverside. And at just $65.00, + breakfast and pool per night, was a fantastic stay. I think the people that dislike Bangkok, tend to stay in the backpackers ghetto where it’s hot, crowded, noisy, packed with scammer tuk-tuk drivers, and actually much more expensive!!
p.s. I would shower up there, as long as there was nothing on the opposite side lol!
Lol! I do think almost of those cheap places tend to be more expensive! You got a great deal. It really does help with the awesome exchange rates. $65 is wonderful. I really look forward to going back to Bangkok. It seems there is still a lot of stuff to do and l definitely want to visit the Grand Palace especially and the old Wat Arun. Maybe, just maybe a floating market too ๐
Wow! This is absolutely beautiful! I would love to visit and take pictures there!
It is indeed beautiful isn’t it? we loved every minute of it :-), and yes..we do want to go back!
