I have been dying to show you a glimpse of Valencia, Spain for a couple of weeks. From the previous post, you know we had been considering making Cullera, a suburb of Valencia our next home because of its lovely beaches. Upon visiting, we decided against it. Valencia, the city itself is now in the running as our next home. I’m sure there are a lot more reasons to move there, but because we have only spent a total of 6 days there now (we just got back from another visit late last night), I am only going to list 4 of the reasons why Valencia makes us very happy so far.

Why We’re Thrilled Cullera Spain Disappointed

Updated: June 24, 2019

View of Cullera Spain townhouses

I had such high hopes for Cullera, a neighboring Valencia town. It looked just perfect for us from the pictures and videos that I had seen. This was destined to be our next home, I was positive. Just to be sure though, we decided to take the four hour train to Valencia from Seville to check it out. Our second year in Seville was brutal in the summer with temperatures reaching over 110 degrees. Muggy too. The desire to be closer to water came on strong. Our first summer here had been dry and we had often wondered why people complained so much. Who knew we had just been lucky!  Now we know.

*Updated to reflect current 2019 prices*

Our cost of living in Spain, Seville specifically is here, and updated for 2019. I’m not sure if it’s because Summer is here and more people are thinking about moving to Spain or if it’s just to compare between Spain and their current country. I have been getting quite a few emails from readers wanting to find out just how accurate the prices listed on our 2015 cost of living article is.

The number of search engine referrals to find the article has been on the rise as well. Now that we have found ourselves retired to the Spanish lifestyle, l will take the opportunity to update the prices. This will hopefully save time for everyone as l sometimes have trouble keeping up with the emails. The aim with this blog is not only to share our destinations with you, it is also to help people who are in need of useful information.

I know that before we made the decision to leave the U.S, there were many, many, many  hours spent in front of the computer in search of information about life in Malta, as that was our first destination. Forgive me if you were looking for another destination article. Put that thought aside this week. Instead, enjoy the ever so exciting cost of toothpaste and tomatoes 🙂 .

Update: Make sure to check the 2019  cost of living in Valencia since we moved cities to compare costs.

Historic Alcazar of Cordoba, Spain and Podcast

alcazar of cordoba entrance with tower of inquisition

Pretty damn impressive. View of the gardens from the Inquisition Tower. You can see the Royal Stable to the right.

The Alcazar of Cordoba was a pleasant surprise. Truth be told, l didn’t even know they had one. I thought the one in Seville was it in the Andalusia region, excluding the Alhambra in Granada of course.

I found the Seville Alcazar so impressive, l didn’t think this one would measure up. Duh! I had forgotten what an important Roman city Cordoba had been. Rude awakening for me as we wandered the historic fortress that was the royal residence of past monarchs.
