The Djuronaset hotel (pronounce without the D) is located in the Stockholm archipelago, on Djuro island. It is a mere forty five minute drive from the city, making for a lovely getaway from the hustle and bustle. Our experience couldn’t have been better, starting from the very comfortable bus that picked us up from the conference hotel in Stockholm.

Djuronaset Hotel Review:
Djuronaset Hotel:
Djuronaset Hotel is a 274 room, 4 star hotel spread over several acres. The exterior of the hotel lobby is quite plain, almost boring. The inside, however is done up in warm and inviting colors, quickly dispelling any disappointing thoughts.
Djuronaset hotel is definitely an outdoor lover’s paradise.ย Sailing, golfing, canoeing are just some of the activities offered. There are also lovely hiking trails. The setting is idyllic. Even though it can accommodate up to four hundred fifty plus number of people, it doesn’t feel cramped or over crowded.
If you prefer the indoors, there are plenty of books to read, or you can even opt to play indoor games like billiards. Upon arrival and check-in by the very capable and friendly staff, we were led to one of the buildings that houses the rooms on the grounds by Pia, our designated handler.

I immediately thought our building perfect for a hen party or guys getaway. There was a kitchen and living room that was nicely decorated. The buildings were set a bit apart so the chances of being loud enough to disturb others are pretty minimal.
Our room was very nice, as was the bathroom. The room felt bright and airy and we had a wonderful view of one of the hiking trails, with some of the sea peeking through. Very relaxing.
One of the things l found fascinating was the roof lines of the buildings (forgot to take a picture ๐ ). They were somehow slanted and blended with the trees. We were informed that part of their deal in getting the hotel built was that the roof could not be seen from above (weird huh!).
There was a competition to design the grounds. The winning architects came up with this “Fresh Air” design. The rooms, housed in different buildings are set apart from the dining hall, forcing you to get fresh air as you make your way to the restaurant, like it or not. Very clever l think.

Djuronaset Hotel Food experience:
Since it was a lovely summer day, we had lunch at theirย seasonal restaurant by the water. The menu was simple, choice of burger or salmon. I opted for the salmon and l can definitely say that it was the best salmon l have ever eaten. I don’t know if it was because it was cold poached, but it was absolutely delicious and still stands out as the best thing l ate the whole time l was in Stockholm ๐ .
Our dinner was also incredible. It was nice to bond with the other bloggers and trade stories. The staff was excellent and made sure we had everything we needed. Their bread was incredible, and baked in house. We loved it so much at our table, we actually asked for more and the kind waitress was able to accommodate us.

Djuronaset Hotel Spa Experience:
The hotel offers an outside as well as an inside sauna. We opted for the indoor one. After Fika, a Swedish version of a coffee break where you have sandwiches, baked fruit and sweets, we got a chance to try out the sauna and sweat it all out. That was a whole lot of fun, no hiking for me. I tried their 4 season water fall. We then retreated to the giant pool, me to the shallow end of course.

Djuronaset Hotel Submarine Experience:
We were given an incredible opportunity to experience a submarine dive whilst there. Despite my apprehension, l agreed, along with two other girls to do just that the very next morning.
I am not quite claustrophobic, but the thought of being enclosed in a 4 person max submarine was a bit nerve jangling. Federico decided against doing it, and informed me that l could find him at the buffet table instead ๐ .
Only two of us showed up for the ride. I’ll tell you what, it was quite the sight getting me in, and especially out of that little round hole. I was positive l would get stuck, and actually on the way down, l missed one of the steps and had to delicately drop down without hitting any of the controls.
Picture me on the way back out and my leg refusing to clear the roughly 2 foot space. Thanks to the very capable captain Lasse who pulled me out, it was all good. Haha! I kind of wish l had a picture to show you ๐ . However,ย it was not funny at that moment ๐ .

The dive was fantastic. This particular submarine is only one of three in the whole world. It was sold to the company by the Swedish Navy and it still is being used with them for strategic exercise. Lasse gets to play war games with the Navy!!! How cool is that? We were hoping to see an actual ship wreck (a twin of the boat at the Vasa museum), but sadly ran out of time.
A definite once in a lifetime experience. He actually did a vertical shot to the surface which l thought was really cool. You had to hang on for dear life as that thing hurtled to the surface. I highly recommend this dive if you find yourself at Djuronaset Hotel. Totally worth it. Lasse is awesome and talked me through my anxiety. You couldn’t be in more capable hands. Their website is here (Swedish).
After a quick breakfast (a buffet) post dive, it was sadly time to leave for Stockholm. The Djuronaset hotel is great for all sorts of vacationers, from couples to families and it is especially wonderful for conferences and weddings. You canย make your booking here for Djuronaset Hotel.ย

Sigh… You are always having a blast aren’t you! What an idyllic setting, I love the concept of fresh air and the open wide spaces. I’m not really an outdoorsy person which is weird because growing up, I was always outside- climbing trees, talking to flowers(ha!) and crunching on centipedes with my feet. This makes me sound like one of the Addams family kids but I wasn’t all that bad really lol
Was the trip all inclusive in your conference package? If so that’s amazing & generous. Nowadays with all the budget cuts standards have been falling at conferences & events or so I hear.
I guess no visit to Sweden would be complete without a sauna experience and that is the largest one I’ve ever seen, how you didn’t take a nap after all that lovely food is beyond me; I’d have been on the nearest sofa or bed:-)
Haha! Not always. I will soon write about an absolutely horrible day at one of the “must see visit” places ;-). Funny how you mentioned wanting to take a nap after all the lovely food. Federico power napped for a half hour while l just stared out the window. he view was just so nice. It was actually contributed by the hotel as part of the conference. You register beforehand, they then take a look at your blog and see if there is some sort of synergy. If there is, then they notify you and you’re good to go. It was nice to be chosen as there are few spaces. Just this stay was more than what we paid for the conference. Very generous indeed of the sponsors and brands involved. The sauna experience was awesome, and l loved the pool being so big, l think l actually swam for a second :-). You do sound a bit like Wednesday Addams..haha! but l’m sure much nicer!
Such an amazing experience, especially the submarine dive! I am not sure how I would’ve felt inside as it does seem pretty tight, but getting to experience all that underwater greatness should be amazing.
The food photos are great as well and truly mouthwatering. I think I’d go through that burger as if there were no tomorrow. Also, I really loved the hotel and the ideas behind it. It looks absolutely amazing – makes you feel at home and not at a hotel, or at least that’s the impression that I get.
I was very glad the third girl didn’t show up. I think l would have had a panic attack. It really is a small space ๐ . I enjoyed it way more than l thought l would, especially because l was the squeamish one in the beginning. When he did the vertical shot, l was the one who ended up loving it even though l didn’t want him to do it. The other girl hated it even though she was the one who had wanted him to do it. Funny ๐ . The food was incredible, absolutely wonderful. Haha! I can picture you with the burger. The hotel was just as you described. Homey, and yes..amazing!
Wow, this looks like a super cool and chill place. Gotta love Sweden. I do miss it. I mean I stayed there for another two months this winter but still. Sweden is just so beautiful. Love your photos!
Thanks Annemarie. We really loved the city and wished we could have stayed longer. If money were no object…we would be all over it.. ๐ .
Looks like you had lots of fun. The spa and Pool looks perfect. I never knew you could ride a submarine. That would be so cool. Is it really claustrophobic though? Then maybe I will also panic. Food looks delicious as well.
I panicked for a bit ๐ . I was really glad the 3rd girl never showed. I would have panicked for sure, it is a tiny space. The food was awesome, as was the spa and pool. It was a wonderful stay and loads of fun.
Looks like a fantastic getaway and so close to Stockholm. THe archipelago is such an asset for Stockholmers. You can really live the city and country life without too much hassle. That salmon looked delicious and also brought back mouth-watering memories from Sweden. There’s one salmon dish I’m trying desperately to recreate back home. Bravo for going into the submarine. Looks like a pretty unique experience. Would love to get back to Sweden and explore more of the archipelago and stay in a lovely hotel as this.
Yeah, l was really surprised by the city. I would never have pictured so many islands. It was a great thing that l never knew much of the city before arrival. You’re right, they are definitely lucky to have city and country life. I always try to recreate wonderful meals too when l get home. We ate so much salmon while there ๐ . I feel pretty proud of myself for going in the submarine too :-). Hope you get to go back soon.
Kemkem what a fun hotel, I loved the sauna and the food looked so yummy. Being among nature is so relaxing, but after all that food I think I would be keen to do a spot of hiking????
It was a really nice hotel. We did get to hike a bit as the Boat House was a bit of a hike to get to. Of course we had to walk back too. That was enough for me, and one reason why we chose to do the indoor sauna as opposed to the outdoor. It would have meant walking again ๐ . The food was magnificent…and so close to the city too.
Wow. never in my dreams I had thought that Sweden will have so many colors, the greenery, the food and the hotel everything has friendly inviting warmth to it
I hear you. It was a lovely surprise for us too. You feel like you’re in the country while in the city in so many places. Everything was really good and we had a great time. Thanks for the comment.
Very N-I-C-E and the food looks over-the-top. I would have loved to try the submarine ride as it looks like a lot of fun and I found myself howling at your description and picturing your “entrance” – grace is highly over rated anyway! I’m trying to picture a four-season waterfall – soft rain showers or freezing ice? Anita
Oh..my entrance or exit for that matter was not very graceful at all ๐ ๐ . There was a moment on the way down when l realized l was crewed and had to drop down.. I was holding myself up with my hands (thank god for gym workout years and years ago.. ๐ )..yeah..grace is totally overrated. You know how much we love food, and it was simply fantastic, from the bread on up. Actually both on the 4 season.. It was a lot of fun. I’m sure you would have loved the ride since you have no fear ๐ .
This looks like a really nice, relaxing place to stay! The spa is intriguing to me. The food looks delicious!!
It really was. We had had a whirlwind trip in Madrid just prior, so it was nice to relax ๐ . The food was excellent.
The one photo did remind me of a recent trip to a touristy farm here in the States! A big, red barn! Your tone sounded like the personalities of the hotel were very warm. I like the way the rooms aren’t all in one big block building! I don’t know about that submarine trip. I might panic. He must have been some guide as you still recommended it after the entry!–Terri
I know right? I was very nervous about going in that thing. You know l can’t swim, so l was already apprehensive about walking on that thing nose to reach the entrance. I thought my weight would sink the sub, and not in a good way ๐ . He was totally cool through the whole thing, so relaxed and talking to me that it eventually felt like we were just having coffee and chatting. He was that good!!!! I can understand panic though, the space is tiny. I told Federico that the red barn and the grounds reminded me of like Vermont..it had that sort of outdoorsy feel. Very nice.
This seems to be a great place to spend quality time. The food looks spectacular too.The ambience also looks great and adds on to the allure of the place. I am sure you had a great time.
We did indeed. I also got to do something brave. Well, at least for me. You said it right, great place for quality time, and yes, the food was absolutely wonderful :-). Thanks for the comment.
That spa area looks amazing – I am obsessed with proper saunas and this one looks stunning. And the food – the salmon picture is making me drool!
Haha! I’m with you on the drooling ๐ . The spa was really awesome. I would have liked to have a massage as well, but didn’t have time. I’m sure it would have been just as good ๐ .
Very cool Kemkem! As usual the food looks delicious.
Funny about the single bed… we just stayed in Bangkok and I shared a single bed with my daughter and I don’t know if I actually slept a wink. ๐
Knew you’d go right for the food ๐ . Girl after my own heart ๐ . Haha! re the single bed. I actually slept okay. I suppose we could have had them switch us to a room with a double bed, but never look a gift horse and all that. Sorry you didn’t get any sleep..bet Z did though ๐ .
It is a nice and beautiful hotel. The salmon salad looks really yummy. This place appears to be a hidden gem. We will travel to Peru next week and should be flying next week this time. We cannot wait for seafood paradise in Peru.
I recently retired (I haven’t had a job since April though) and always wonder how you guys travel so frequently and support yourselves financially. We want to travel more often and have plans to visit Europe and Asia. But we cannot afford to travel more than once or twice a year.
The salmon was really out of this world ๐ . It certainly is a hidden gem, this place. It is so serene. Your mention of seafood paradise has me drooling. Congratulations on your retirement. You must be thrilled. I was more than happy to give up the rat race myself. We do seem to travel a lot don’t we? I graduated from pharmacy school at the age of 19 and worked for 30 years (well, 29 yrs, 11months and 2 weeks but who’s counting? ๐ ). I would love to say it was all $ saved up, but nope..l spent quite a bit on stupid stuff. I broke one of the golden rules of FI years ago and bought my first house with the proceeds, half a house. A friend of mine owned the other half. We lived together for years and when we sold, l used the profit to get another which l then sold for double 4 years later in L.A. Anyway, long story short..by the time we left the U.S, we sold 3 of our condos to fund our travels and have rental income to supplement the rest. If it helps and anyone else is interested, let me know and l can put together a post that explains in detail. Of course our cost of living in Spain is less and we usually fly with error fares or sales. Also, we chose to move to Europe so that we could take advantage of the flight deals which are sometimes as low as $60 RT per person ๐ .
You graduated pharmacy school at age 19??? You must have very good educational background. Some of my friends went on pharmacy school but did not get out till age 24 or 25.
I think that every person in this blog community is interested in how you financially support your lifestyle and travel. We sold my first property in California last year and are trying to sell two properties right now. Once we sell those properties, we will move to Mexico but will never buy a single property again. We plan to stay in Mexico for 5 or 6 years and just rent a small house there. This will give us better mobility to move within Mexico and around the world. We really want to move to Spain but aren’t sure if we can get a long-term visa and can afford to live there. But we don’t need to move to Spain to experience culture there and can visit there for a month or two. We will see how our finance can support us after 5 or 6 years.
Well technically, l graduated 2 months before my 20th birthday :-). For as long as l can remember, I was always been the youngest in my classes. I’m with you about never buying property again! No thank you. I’m willing to bet the cost of living in Mexico is higher than southern Spain, but you’re right, it may not be easy to get papers. Okay then.. l will write a future post about it. Long time readers probably know as l have mentioned it before on different posts, but l will make a cohesive one for prosperity as soon as l can. Have you ever read Jed’s blog? His family moved to Spain for 2 years on the long-term visa and he has the details on the process. They have probably just come back to the States or will be back shortly.
Submarine dive? Well, that is all you have to say. The food looks amazing too so next time we’re in Stockholm, We will definitely consider the Djuronaset Hotel
Had l known, l would have led off with that. It was scary but exciting and l can’t believe l’m saying this, but l would do it again! ๐ . Please do, it’s a wonderful hotel.
Looks like a fun place with tons to do. I would especially love the hiking and the pool!
It certainly was. I loved the pool as well because it had a huge shallow area for chickens like me ๐
You think your have seen it all… This place is super cute. I havent been to Stockholm in a couple of years but it looks like I found an excuse to go.
Sigh.. I am beginning to realize that l will never see it all. Haha!!! It’s a good excuse to go. It is absolutely wonderful there.
Wow, that submarine dive is so cool! Even though you were scared I bet it was such a great experience!
It really was an amazing experience, especially the vertical shot. Call me Braveheart from now on ๐ ๐
Very nice looking hotel and I always love a bit of nature. Looks a bit “ranchy” ๐
Frank (bbqboy)
It certainly is a nice one. Yeah..it does sort of reminds you of a Vermont or New Hampshire resort. Open and yeah..a bit of a ranch feel.
‘Love it!
It must have been such an adrenalin rush, even though it might have wrecked your nerves a little lol!
Sweden sounds like a lovely place to “get-back-to-living” in a natural way. Hiking – Nature. Tick! Health – Marvellous food. Tick! Indoor activity – Spa and Sauna. Tick! Adventure – the teeny weeny submarine. Tick!
Now, would I get into a tiny submarine even though it’s probably made for children or starving supermodels? Probably. Tick!
Yep..Sweden does indeed tick all the boxes. There were a lot of Africans there which surprised me a bit. More impressive was the fact that they spoke the language (one guy after only 2 years) which can only lead me to believe there must be some sort of classes given by the government to speed up assimilation. Made me feel ashamed at my poor level of Spanish. I keep saying we will explore more in our backyard, but l don’t think we’ve been here more than 2 weeks at a time this whole year ๐ . You totally would get in that submarine and would enjoy it too ๐
