Nicole has been an ex-pat in Oman for six years and counting, and she is the interviewee for this week as we discuss life in the Muslim country and some of the reasons why she left the states over ten years ago, if she can ever picture herself moving back to America to settle, or if life outside the states suits her better. It was great catching up with her as her great life adventure continues in a very positive way, even with the pandemic and the canceled plans.

It’s always a pleasure when I get to interview friends for the podcast. This was the case this week as l got to chat with Albert and Barbara Roldan who have made Valencia their home after a stint in France. Having known them for about two years now, I have enjoyed seeing them on a regular basis and have been keen to have them share their story. The stars aligned, and l was able to corral them for a quick chat on life in Spain, and beyond.

I have diagnosed myself as having covid fatigue. Not the kind you have from catching the virus, however. My fatigue stems from an overload of non-stop COVID information. Do you ever get tired of being tired? I am noticing the shifting sentiment in people’s attitudes. My attitude is also slowly wavering. We all seem to be tired of taking precautions. Here’s how life is slowly starting to change in Valencia.

The subject matter of this podcast is patriarchy in Indian culture. Mytrae (pronounced My-thray-yee) recounts her ex-pat journey of coming to America as a teenager, eventually falling in love with a local man, being “kidnapped” by her own family, and sent back to India for daring to go against the cultural norm. This experience was traumatic for her to say the least. Despite the fact that there were a lot of laughs in the interview, it is a serious matter, and I for one, am pleased that Mytrae was able to survive her ordeal and become a stronger person for it.
