After having commuted between Miami and Madrid for several years, Maria Belton now calls Valencia home. In this very joyous interview, we chat about life, what brought her to Spain and how she has been able to make her dreams come true even without making big bucks.
This post was written a few days before the state of alarm was actually reinstated. I have attempted to include the latest information in this fast-developing situation.
I am now more convinced than ever that when it comes to handling the coronavirus pandemic in Spain, it is a case of the blind leading the blind, and Valencia is collateral damage in this showdown. I do not envy the decision-makers as it seems like a case of you’re damned if you do, and damned if you don’t. From the looks of things, it’s looking more and more as if we’re headed towards a “new” state of alarm, as in lockdown, despite the promises of no further lockdowns from just a few short weeks ago.
This podcast episode is a conversation with Renee Dent, a current resident in the United Arab Emirates. It is also the longest podcast as of yet, but l wanted to hear her story, and l think it is a very inspiring story and l find it courageous that she is able to help others. She shares both the good and bad of life after being forced to flee the states when an increasingly violent stalker fixated on her. Her first destination to a part of the world unknown to her then took a leap of faith, but she needed to protect herself and young son.
Nicole has been an ex-pat in Oman for six years and counting, and she is the interviewee for this week as we discuss life in the Muslim country and some of the reasons why she left the states over ten years ago, if she can ever picture herself moving back to America to settle, or if life outside the states suits her better. It was great catching up with her as her great life adventure continues in a very positive way, even with the pandemic and the canceled plans.
It’s always a pleasure when I get to interview friends for the podcast. This was the case this week as l got to chat with Albert and Barbara Roldan who have made Valencia their home after a stint in France. Having known them for about two years now, I have enjoyed seeing them on a regular basis and have been keen to have them share their story. The stars aligned, and l was able to corral them for a quick chat on life in Spain, and beyond.
