Wowzer! When the quarantine started just a few months ago, I, like a lot of people thought it would blow over pretty quickly and since we weren’t doing any traveling, I revived the podcast interviews that l had started five years ago. 20 weekly episodes in, no end in sight for the pandemic, and with still no foreseeable travel, Here is an update of the new normal life in Valencia and the changes forthcoming.

The subject matter of this podcast is patriarchy in Indian culture. Mytrae (pronounced My-thray-yee) recounts her ex-pat journey of coming to America as a teenager, eventually falling in love with a local man, being “kidnapped” by her own family, and sent back to India for daring to go against the cultural norm. This experience was traumatic for her to say the least. Despite the fact that there were a lot of laughs in the interview, it is a serious matter, and I for one, am pleased that Mytrae was able to survive her ordeal and become a stronger person for it.
I refer to Jeanette as a resilient expat because she has definitely been through a lot during her years abroad, both good and bad. She refuses to let anything get in the way of her search for happiness and a place to call home. She is certainly not shy about her strong feelings so apologies in advance for the salty language, but sometimes it’s nice to hear the flip side of everything being rosy all the time.

I have never been a religious person and just think to each their own. Talking with Caneisha, and seeing how her faith kept her, and still keeps her grounded was awe-inspiring. I wonder how many women would have reacted the way she did had they been confronted by infidelity as she started her ex-pat life in Dubai. Here is her story of how she persevered and even found her passion for helping others overcome their relationship problems.
