Pizza in Rome

Our arrival in Rome was quite ordinary. Despite the fact that we had flown in from a different country (Spain), it was quite un exciting.. This of course was fine with us. As part of the E.U, there were no long lines at the Passport  counter, just a quick look when you checked in for your flight. What a difference from when we came to visit, traveling from Houston or  L.A.! Then, we had to  drive one hour to the airport, of course arrive at least two hours prior to departure , then a  ten hour flight, before finally arriving, only to have to stand in line for another 30-45 minutes before collecting your bags and going on your merry way, completely exhausted. I won’t even mention the jet lag experience which totally sucks, because as soon as your body adjusts to the local time, it’s time to do the whole journey in reverse. I can’t complain though, what an awesome privilege to be able to travel. I am grateful to be so lucky. Our flight was only two hours from Malaga, and my brother in law picked us up and within twenty minutes, we were home

My downfall, 1/2 mushroom and sausage and 1/2 cured beef and salad..yikes! Loved the egg though..

My husband had been talking about food for the last few weeks, especially pizza at his favorite pizza joint, I Gerani da Peppe. We always make sure to eat there whenever we visit. We went on our first night . He had deliberately not eaten any lunch, saving himself for this pizza showdown   :-) . This place has been there for over 50 years , and is very popular with the locals. It is always packed, and that weekday evening was no exception.

They have not just pizza, but pasta and lovely appetizers  like bruschetta. Most people though , go for the pizza. The pizza is 18 inches! 18!!! A Large Domino pizza is about 12-14 inches by comparison . Even though the traditional Roman pizza is thin, it is still quite a huge thing. I always have high hopes of finishing my pizza every time, but l lose that bet all the time :-( .  My husband says it’s because l always load the pizza down with toppings, but l can’t help it, l like my pizza toppings.

 

If you find yourself in Rome, and want good pizza, head over to this joint. You won’t hear any English spoken here though. Make sure you have a reservation. It seats roughly 150, but like l said, this is one busy pizza joint.
