Meet Federico and Kemkem: About Us

collage

The are our stories of how we got from there (U.S) to here (Malta) to here (Spain), slow traveling through Europe and beyond.

Kemkem’s story:

about us

I grew up in Africa, and moved to the States as a teenager. My first years were spent in Boston and l attended college there. Four years after graduation, l moved to Los Angeles where l lived there for 19 years. I met Federico in L.A and we moved to Houston a short while later. We were there for six years. I worked as a pharmacist from many, many, many years.

Federico’s story:

fedpic

I was born and raised in Rome, Italy. My profession for the past twelve years has been as a freelance professional photographer. I moved to Melbourne Australia from Rome, and have had the good fortune to work with some great fashion photographers, both there and in Los Angeles. I started out as a fashion, editorial style photographer, but have since expanded to include other forms, such as Landscape and wedding coverage.

Our Story:

A family tragedy made us realize that life is short. Our dream had always been to travel, not get trapped in the traditional mode of work till 65, then retire and travel. Somehow, we had gotten lost along the way. So, we basically sold everything (everyone always says that 🙂 ) and decided to make our base somewhere in Europe so we could travel more since the countries were so close. We ended up in Malta, and lived there for a year and half. We moved to Spain, and are currently based in the beautiful Andalusian city of Seville. This blog documents our travels, where we go, what we eat, where we stay and our opinions.

Where you fit in:

We hope our travels inspire you to get out there and see more of the world. While this is not always possible for many, we would still like you to be an armchair traveler and live vicariously through us. Journey with us as we take our next bite of life. • Cool! Glad you are digging Root of Good. I think you are doing a great job so far. You share interesting anecdotes and write well. The pictures are phenomenal. One small suggestion: when you have a link to share, make sure it’s “linked”. If you are using wordpress, there’s a little “link” button that makes it easier to turn the text into a clickable link. Since many people surf on a phone or tablet these days, having clickable links is a big time saver!

        Keep up the good work!

  1. Thanks for stopping by Big Guy Money! I agree with Justin – the pictures you have on your site are breathtaking. For some reason travel overseas spooks me a little, not sure why! I’ll have to figure it out and conquer it.

  6. Hi Kemkem,
I’ve just read some of your wonderful posts because my husband and I are thinking of traveling to Spain this summer. We are in our sixties and this will be our first trip abroad. Both of us have always wanted to visit Spain. The trouble is figuring out where in Spain. So much we want to experience, but we dont want to end up coming back home from vacation exhausted. I’m just about convinced Valencia would be a good choice for us. We will have 10 days. Do you have any thoughts you could share from your experience? BTW we are from New York. I’m 61 my husband (paul) is 67. We like to walk, love beaches, love great food, love music. Im a big fan of flamenco.
    Hoping to hear from you,
    Yvonne Shivers

    • Hi Yvonne,
I’m very glad you found our little blog and are enjoying it :-). Spain is always a good choice in my opinion and Valencia would be a great introduction to Europe and traveling in general as it is mellow. I do think you have made a good choice. Depending on when in summer you come, you should be able to fill 10 days at a nice pace. The beach is reachable by bus or metro, there is definitely good food and the Berkelee School of Music give free concerts in the evenings. Flamenco is more Sevillano but we have had guests rave about a particularly small but wonderful venue to see flamenco. You should know that in August, most mom and pop stores and loads of restaurants are closed and pretty much a ghost town because everyone takes their vacation then so l would avoid August at all costs. The best part is that Barcelona, Malaga and Madrid are close.. roughly 2 hours each via high speed train so you can visit for a day or two to break things up. Notice l did not mention Seville because it will be an inferno :-). I hope this helps.
